WE GET AMPERAGE FROM A FOSSIL FUEL FAN

Many people who’ve reached out and offered us electricity through the website are into things like alternative energy and sustainability. It stands to reason that green types would want to help out a couple of guys on electric vehicles. So we were a little confused when we pulled into the Leesburg home of Chris Smith. There was no recycled birdhouse. No tumbling composter. No found-object wind chime. But there was a Porsche GT3 RS with a roll cage, smart wing and race slicks, a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8 high performance SUV, a tricked-out WRX, and a custom yellow Snap-On tool chest bigger than most dwellings in Papua New Guinea. Could this be the right address? Turns out it was, and while Chris was no friend to electric vehicles, he wasn’t an enemy to them either. The fact is he’s a hell of a nice guy, but, like many ardent fans of internal combustion, he’s unwilling to compromise when it comes to performance. We could write pages and pages on why that’s an unreasonable position, but it won’t change the fact that many Americans feel exactly like Chris. And when they judge a vehicle, regardless of whether it’s powered by electricity or fossil fuel, their conclusion is based solely on that vehicle’s ability to propel them through space. Electric vehicles won’t supplant their gas-powered counterparts until they can achieve similar performance. But the good news is, they’re already getting closer. The fact that the bikes me and Brian are riding go 70mph makes them a heck of a lot more practical for someone whose commute has a few miles of interstate. And now that EVs are showing up at the races, increased performance will trickle down to the production models. As Chris himself admits, “If they make one that scares kids and old people I might buy it.” Well, we guarantee the BRAMMO Isle of Man bike would scare the bejeesus out of an octogenarian. And it’s not hard to envision that kind of performance making it’s way to a production platform. Better keep that Amex handy, Chris.

Yes you’re right, this Chris guy embodies much of America, and it’s truly sad. Why can’t he and others look beyond their macho vehicles and their pursuit of happiness and think about the consequences? Why? Because we live in a passive society where the average person is incapable of critical thinking… instead people like Chris are blinded by their selfishness and can only see in front of their nose. Keep sending your petrol dollars to the middle east Chris… that’s the American way!

Both Dave and Rachael seem to have no class or intelligence considering their childish comments. Jon, I do agree with you on what you have said. Chris Smith obviously is one of the small number of Americans who is able to make it these days and he seems to enjoy flaunting his riches while the vast majority of Americans like myself are working harder and longer these days just to make it to the next paycheck. I do admit a little jealousy in Mr Smith’s comfortable lifestyle but am fed up with the unfair distribution of wealth in this country where you have the few Mr. Smith’s who live good and the many others who work their lives away from paycheck to paycheck with no health insurance, vacation, a decent place to live and a decent vehicle to drive (which in my case if I could afford it would be the Brammo) as I dont need a Porsche, srt8 Jeep, and all the other toys mister richy rich has. I do want to compliment Mr. Smith on his generousity in helping the team.

What We're Doing

Our plan is to retrace the route of the automotive CEOs who went to Washington DC asking for government loans. But instead of looking for aid, we'd like to present President Obama with a homegrown solution to the transportation crisis. And instead of flying in a corporate jet, we're riding Brammo Enertia powercycles. We're just a couple of guys who work for Brammo, but we want to show that there's a better way to get from Point A to Point B. And we want to have a little fun while we're doing it. So join us as we surf from plug to plug in a quest to meet Obama, fueled by nothing more than electricity and the kindness of everyday Americans.
