WE RECEIVE SOME PRETTY HUGE NEWS

whitehouse

craig

Since we arrived in Washington we’d been pounding the pavement and banging on doors all over the capitol, right up to the White House itself, trying not to run afoul of the United States Secret Service or any other government agency in our attempt to get an electric motorcycle to President Obama. But at times it seemed like we had gotten nowhere. At least, that’s what we thought. Then, just when we were starting to reconcile ourselves with the fact that we were nothing more than a couple of ill-prepared, unconnected, seriously disheveled guys on electric motorcycles, we received an amazing piece of news from BRAMMO CEO Craig Bramscher. All the cultural momentum of our journey, all the people following us and rooting for us and contacting lawmakers on our behalf, had landed Craig a last minute invitation to meet with the US Secretary of Energy, Stephen Chu. Obama wouldn’t be there, so we’d still have to figure out how to get him one of the bikes, but this was a big deal for the future of EVs–a chance to influence policy that would pave the way for success in the category. So, yes, Brian and I WERE just a couple of ill-prepared, unconnected, seriously disheveled guys. But unbeknownst to us, we were backed by all of you guys out there–a digital confederation of smart, passionate, net-savvy individuals who wouldn’t take no for an answer. It was you and not us that opened this door, and if that isn’t democracy, what the hell is?

Was all the video shot with a Flip camera? Been wondering about that as well as what editing program is being used. Like the flavor.

    Great Job! Closer than ever!

    BUT!

Please stop saying that the Inertia is the first production high-way electric bike. What you’re doing is fantastic and I support you 100%, but give credit where credit is due…Vectrix beat you to it by a couple of years.

  8. Vectrix?
    October 29th, 2009 @ 4:07 am

Vectrix just sold scooters. There’s a difference between a scooter and a motorcycle/motorbike and that difference is a big part of what makes the Enertia special.

Vectrix was an even less imaginative creation than the annoying Tesla. Buy Lotus. Remove 630lb IC engine….replace with 640lb battery pack….sell to DiCaprio wannabe/equivalent….repeat. Vectrix gave 4 scoots to Manhattan NYPD unit for testing. They looked like they were about to deliver a child riding them the things were so BLOATED and wide. Yes it went 60 until it broke which most have. This is the next generation…or the first of the REAL “1st Gen”.

I spent one day on the Enertia , 4 hours actually , riding through SOHO , Tribeca , and Greenwich Village / NYU area. ( My friends are moto-journalists and had it after some Fox Business News or Today Show appearance ) . Everyone who “saw it but didn’t hear any noise” freaked over it and came over and asked where they could try it or buy it…cellphone pics…crazy. It was a nice day though – not the crappy weather the Fearless Duo apparently endured.

I’ve ridden Qantyas and Zeros. Trust me this is the first real road bike. A commuter / around town bike….but quick and nimble and durable. It’s like my KTM Duke single in the city, but without the vibes.

I love the Enertia and I think the president will, too. It’s a real road bike with an excellent chassis and high quality engine from Perm Motor. I’m sick of Supermotos and Enduros like the other electric bikes are (Zero, Quantya, eKrad). Hope someday I can buy it in Europe…

    Great job guys!

I prefer the Brammo configuration to the Vectrix, but the Vectrix was the first production electric motorcycle that is freeway capable. I’ve been riding mine for more than a year without any problems. It goes 65 MPH on the freeway. By the way – it has 30% more horsepower than Brammo – and more torque… :-)

The Vetrix also weighs a lot more than the Brammo. So over all it’s slower.

    GREAT JOB guys!

You did the right things, the right way, for the right reasons.

As you observed in one of your posts – this journey was as much about the USA getting back into innovation and manufacturing things of use in our daily lives as it was about demonstrating the product.

Please fogive the pun, but the Enertia was the perfect vehicle for the your purpose.

My Enertia is on order and I can hardly wait for it to arrive. Yes we can!

Get more than one biker in any place and an argument about which one is faster and better is inevitable. Competition is the only fair way to settle it. I look forward to electric cycle races, trials and economy runs.
Do not be discouraged guys. There are so many people following you with good wishes for success that you will succeed in ways that you never imagined. You fought a good and honorable fight with gentlemanly class and humour.

    Yeah nice going!

Can’t wait for the video of Obama riding the Enertia down Pennsylvania Ave followed by a speach to the country on the importance of EVs!

    October 30th, 2009 @ 5:43 pm

In my opinion, Vectrix stuck with a sissy scooter, that only europeans like. If they had made a motorcycle version, they might have remained in business. Americans are not hip on scooters. As I mentioned in my other post, I’ll buy a Brammo as a second commuter bike and use my dresser for those cross country trips. Maybe someday the “Fast Charge” and infastructure will be perfected and the batteries will last 200 miles. Now we’re talking.

I’d always heard that the main difference between a motorcycle and a scooter was the ability to put your knees together. Therefore, I think the claim about the first highway capable electric motorcycle is supportable. Having said that, Vectrix people love their bikes, and why not? They’re great and innovative, too. Can’t we all just get along? ;)

What We're Doing

Our plan is to retrace the route of the automotive CEOs who went to Washington DC asking for government loans. But instead of looking for aid, we'd like to present President Obama with a homegrown solution to the transportation crisis. And instead of flying in a corporate jet, we're riding Brammo Enertia powercycles. We're just a couple of guys who work for Brammo, but we want to show that there's a better way to get from Point A to Point B. And we want to have a little fun while we're doing it. So join us as we surf from plug to plug in a quest to meet Obama, fueled by nothing more than electricity and the kindness of everyday Americans.
